Josef learned his trade in Austria in 1974. His European skills in every aspect of asphalt construction are second to none — and he brought every bit of that expertise to the Sunshine Coast when he established Asphalt & Base Construction in 2003.
Together with his wife Anna and son Archy, Josef built this business from the ground up on the Sunshine Coast. The philosophy was simple from the start: do the job properly, charge fairly, and leave every site better than you found it.
That reputation has earned them over 5,000 completed driveways on the Sunshine Coast alone — a figure that speaks for itself. What’s behind it? Josef’s precision and engineering expertise honed over decades in Europe, combined with Archy’s hands-on leadership and communication on site. When you call, you speak to one of them directly. How long will my new driveway last?
Depending on the quality and thickness of the road base and existing soil conditions, it should last between 15 to 20 years minimum, and up to 25–40 years with occasional maintenance such as crack sealing.
Can I drive over it straight away?
You can drive over it the following day, being mindful of turning. Further details are provided on the aftercare instructions we leave with you when the job is complete.
Can tree roots come through my new driveway?
Yes, unfortunately they can. This is something we’ll discuss with you during the site visit so we can identify any nearby trees and advise on the best approach for your specific situation.
How long does it take to do a driveway?
It depends on the size. Prep work will on average take one day, and the asphalt laying takes 1–2 days. Anticipate a minimum of 2 days in total, subject to weather conditions.
What sort of guarantee do I have?
There is a 12-month guarantee on all our work. If issues were to surface, they will arise within the first 1–2 months. We stand behind every job we complete — call us and we’ll come back to fix it.
I can see white lines on my new driveway — what are they?
Occasionally the metal drums on the roller will leave a “white” edging. It is common to see white and rust-coloured stains on freshly sealed asphalt. This comes from mineral salts in water, gravel and dirt. These marks are all temporary and should vanish within the first few months.
How much does an asphalt driveway cost?
Costs vary based on size and preparation required. Asphalt is typically 2–3× cheaper than concrete. Most residential driveways fall between $3,000–$12,000. Contact us for a free site-specific quote — no hidden costs, ever.
Do you offer red or coloured asphalt?
Yes. We offer red-brown asphalt — a hot mix formula with a soft, elegant appearance that complements many Queensland homes and acreage properties. It’s particularly popular for hinterland properties and larger rural blocks where the earthy tone suits the landscape beautifully.
Do you service regional areas?
Yes, we service all of South-East Queensland including Gympie, Ipswich, Caboolture, Moreton Bay and surrounds. Based in Eudlo, we’re well positioned for the full Sunshine Coast region, including the hinterland. Contact us to discuss your location.
Can you handle steep or difficult access driveways?
Absolutely. We hand and machine lay asphalt, which means we can handle tight-access jobs and steep sites that others won’t take on. Steep hinterland driveways, narrow entries, and unusual site layouts are all within our experience.
